Peter and the Starcatchers [4], a popular Peter Pan prequel, was published to wide acclaim in 2004 and developed for the stage to “Peter and the Starcatcher” in 2006. Peter Pan's origin story is a swashbuckling one filled with mermaids, pirates and magic; the stage production at Actors Theatre promises to be as fanciful and imaginative as the subject matter.

 

Meredith McDonough (Associate Artistic Director for Actors [5]) directs this production of "Peter and the Starcatcher." McDonough's previous directorial work with Actors includes “The Last Five Years” and “brownsville song (b-side for tray)” among others. Both of the aforementioned productions featured incredible sets; and the movement of those set pieces was incorporated into each play as a story element. In “The Last Five Years” a rotating stage was used to set the timeline of each protagonist in (literally) a different direction. Since any Peter Pan stage production relies on a little extra stagecraft magic (flying characters, giant crocodiles, fairies, etc.) to succeed, it seems fitting for McDonough to direct.
