Slow Food Bluegrass [4] hosted the 2nd Annual Fried Chicken Throw Down [5] at Resurfaced [6] this past Saturday, October 17. The Throw Down ran from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. with other events finishing out the day. It may have been chilly, but the chicken sure heated tasters right up, especially Joella’s Fire and Royal’s Gonzo.
The bar was pouring a couple of fall cocktails with KY Peerless Distilling Co.'s [7] bourbon and moonshine as well as draft selections from Against The Grain. Royals Hot Chicken [8], Wiltshire On Market [9], Joella's Hot Chicken [10], Farm to Fork Catering [11], Over The 9 [12], Roux Louisville [13], Marketplace Restaurant [14], Gelato Gilberto [15], POLLO [16], MilkWood [17] and Against The Grain Brewery [18] provided the tastes.
The setup was very different from the previous Resurfaced by the KY Science Center. This ReSurfaced was right on the river, by the Connect/Disconnect public art exhibit, and it utalized shipping containers for decorations as well as the bar and covered seating. Sitting next to a grass riverbank was refreshing and contrasted with the urban bridge-scape very nicely.
Every single bite was tasty. However, there had to be a winner. The following three awards were decided by ballots filled out by the public in attendance.
