Coming of Age Rites and Rituals Workshop with Malidoma Somé, Ph.D.
Kentucky International Convention Center
221 South Fourth Street
Cost – $25 at BrownPaperTicket.com or by phone 1-800-838-3006.
Once we were all “indigenous people.” But in recent history the migration from region to region and from countryside to city broke many of the ties we used to have to one another and to the land and water that supported us. Those who didn’t make that move, — the indigenous peoples of the world, — can help us remember what it’s like to be connected to the environment and to each other. This is valuable not because we want to return to the way we used to live, but because facets of that connectedness can greatly assist us to create a sustainable way of life. In this workshop, Malidoma will explore initiation, ritual, and healing as tools for support and transformation as we seek sustainable modes of being in the 21st century.
Malidoma Somé is one of today’s most eloquent champions of indigenous wisdom. His life and teaching form a bridge between the traditional ways of his people, the Dagara of West Africa – among whom he is an initiated elder – and the modern world. His books include: The Healing Wisdom of Africa, Of Water and the Spirit and Ritual: Power, Healing, and Community.
